ACP does not support QPP measure 334: “Adult Sinusitis: More Than One CT Scan within 90 Days for Chronic Sinusitis (Overuse).” Implementation will likely promote appropriate use of CT scan in patients diagnosed with chronic sinusitis and the measure specifications include appropriate exclusion criteria for documented reason of appropriate use of CT scan. However, developers do not cite a performance gap, validity, or reliability data and the measure should be risk-adjusted to avoid potentially penalizing clinicians who care for patients with complicated ear, nose, and throat problems. While this measure may appropriately assess performance of otolaryngology clinicians, it is not an appropriate accountability measure for general internists.
