Awards

2021 ACP-WI Early Career Internist of the Year Award: Cecilia Scholcoff, MD

This award recognizes the outstanding contributions of an early career internist in clinical practice, research and/or medical education. Dr. Scholcoff provides outstanding care to a panel of veterans in her primary care clinic with quality measures in the top 10% across the country. She is a beloved teacher, supervising residents in their primary care clinics and during inpatient medicine rotations.  Because of her observations of problems encountered by her women learners, Dr. Scholcoff helped lead a project on the prevalence and impact of sexual harassment of providers by patients which resulted in several publications.  Going beyond just describing the problem, she lead a national workshop dealing with sexual harassment by patients and has taken the lead in developing a curriculum for the MCW internal medicine residents on this issue.

2021 ACP-WI Advancement of Women's Health Award: The Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness

This award recognizes a physician, resident, student, lay person, or community organization that has made a significant contribution to the advancement of women's health. Established in June 2012, the Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness is a Wisconsin-based non-profit organization committed to mobilizing African American women to pursue and sustain mind-body-spirit wellness, and to raise the visibility and support of Black women’s health as a community and public health priority. The Foundation’s mission is “to eliminate health disparities and other barriers impacting the lives of women and girls of African descent. We will achieve this mission through education and outreach, advocacy, support circles, and powerful partnerships.”

Specific approaches include life-enhancing fitness and physical activity experiences designed to get Black Women and girls moving, financial wellness and wealth building strategy workshops, sisterhood and community-building events and spaces, as well as empowerment and leadership development training and support.  The Foundation also serves as a voice and advocate for Black women and girls in the community on health and quality of life issues that directly impact their well-being.
